ATTENTION: New UChicago Phishing Scam Circulating

A new phishing scam is circulating with the subject "ADMIN/HELP DESK: DATABASE UPGRADE." It asks you to reply and provide your university email password and claims to be from "webmaster@uchicago.edu." This is a scam. Do not respond. You do not need to forward the email to us. You should delete the email. NSIT will never request your password, nor will we ask you to change or "validate" your password at a site other than http://cnet.uchicago.edu. If you receive a message that asks for your CNet password, it is a fraudulent email.

Here is the text of the email:

Dear uchicago.edu Account Owner,

This message is from uchicago.edu messaging center to
all uchicago.edu email account owners. The Office of
Information Technology is in the process of migrating
all uchicago.edu email accounts to upgraded central e-mail services.

We are deleting all unused uchicago.edu email accounts to
create more spaces for new accounts.

To prevent your account from being closed, you will
have to provide the information below to update it
so that we will be sure that your account is still
active presently.

CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL IDENTITY BELOW:

E-mail Password : ................
Date of Birth : ................
Location : ................

Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his or
her email account within 30days of receiving this warning
will lose his or her email account permanently.
