Changes to NSIT Email Servers
NSIT is replacing its old outbound mail server, smtp.uchicago.edu, with a newer authenticated server, authsmtp.uchicago.edu. Authenticated SMTP provides additional security and allows you to send mail more reliably from off-campus.
If you are using a dedicated email client (e.g., Mozilla Thunderbird) to check your University email, please look at your outgoing mail (SMTP) settings and update them if they reference smtp.uchicago.edu. For detailed instructions, see http://support.uchicago.edu/authsmtp.
Individuals who use only webmail do not need to make any changes.
Off-campus access to the old outgoing mail server (smtp.uchicago.edu) will be cut off in October 2008. All off-campus cMail users must update their settings by then to continue sending outgoing email through our servers.
