Recycle Your Old Computer Hardware
Summer’s nearly here, which means that as you prepare to wrap up the academic year, you might be moving out of a dorm or apartment, or doing some spring cleaning.
Instead of throwing away any old or unused hardware such as computers, printers, or scanners, you can recycle them using NSIT’s free Recycling Program for Computers.
The Recycling program accepts the following items in either working or non-working condition:
- Computers
- Laptops
- Monitors
- Keyboards
- Modems
- Printers
- Scanners
Working computers and hardware will be refurbished by our staff and donated to local charities and schools. Non-working computers will be processed and disposed of in an environmentally friendly way, rather than being dumped in a landfill. As part of the recycling process, NSIT ensures that all hard drives and storage devices are purged of data.
There is no charge for the service, and Departments can even schedule an item pickup. To recycle your old hardware, please drop it off at the Sales Warehouse anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Sales Warehouse is located at 6019 S. Kimbark Ave., in the basement of the New Graduate Residence Hall. If you would like your computer to be picked up at your location, email Computer-recycling@listhost.uchicago.edu to schedule an appointment.
