Faculty and Staff: Help Keep Identities Safe with Identity Finder
Could you have sensitive information, such as Social Security Numbers, stored on your computer without even knowing it? Having this information stored on your hard drive represents a significant risk to the University in the event of a security compromise (such as laptop theft).
To prevent the potential theft of identity information, you can use software called Identity Finder to find and remove Social Security Numbers and other sensitive information from your computer. Identity Finder searches your computer to find specific types of sensitive information and provides tools to protect or securely dispose of the information.
Identity Finder is available for all faculty and staff to help you protect the sensitive information under your control. NSIT encourages all faculty and staff to download and use Identity Finder to help keep identities safe from theft. Please contact your local IT group to find out if there are special policies governing its use in your department. Identity Finder is only available for Windows; we do not have a solution for Mac OS X at this time.
You can download Identity Finder from the Identity Finder page. We also have instructions on how to use Identity Finder on our Documentation site.
