Changes to NSIT Email Service
NSIT is replacing its old outbound mail server, smtp.uchicago.edu, with a newer authenticated server, authsmtp.uchicago.edu. Authenticated SMTP provides additional security and allows you to send mail more reliably from off-campus.
As of November 19th, all off-campus email must be directed through the new server. If you are using a dedicated email client (e.g., Mozilla Thunderbird) to check your University email, please look at your outgoing mail (SMTP) settings and update them if they reference smtp.uchicago.edu. For detailed instructions, see http://support.uchicago.edu/authsmtp.
Individuals who only use xMail or webmail do not need to make any changes.
Please update your settings before November 19th to avoid any disruption in your ability to send email from off-campus. Unauthenticated SMTP will be turned off for on-campus services during 2009, so you should make sure to update your on-campus settings as well.
