Survey Results for home.uchicago.edu
NSIT's personal home page service, home.uchicago.edu, did not originate within NSIT. The original personal home page service was student-www.uchicago.edu, and was put together in the mid-1990's by a student organization, the University of Chicago Student Computing Organization (UCSCO). NSIT took over the service in 1999, making some modifications and renaming it home.uchicago.edu. The core design, however, remained much the same as it was under UCSCO. For a variety of reasons, NSIT has never been able to devote resources to fully integrate it into our infrastructure. As a result, it's grown increasingly out of step with the rest of our services as time has gone on.
In March 2009, we sent an informal, non-scientific survey to current users of home.uchicago.edu to learn how people use the service now, what they use it for, and why they use it, given the plethora of other services now available. You can view a summary of the survey responses we received, and the tentative conclusions we reached.
