New and Improved VPN
NSIT is happy to introduce a new VPN (virtual private network) to campus. This service allows members of the University community to securely access University network resources as if you were on campus, no matter where you are in the world. The new VPN offers a more user-friendly interface and is compatible with a greater number of operating systems, including OS X 10.6 and 64-bit versions of Windows.
The new VPN is web-based and installs itself on your computer the first time you log in. You do not need to download and install software prior to logging in to the VPN and you will not need to import any certificates. However, you will need to have administrative privileges on your computer the first time you log in to the VPN, so that the software can be installed.
With the release of cVPN, use of the old VPN is no longer recommended. We will continue to operate the old VPN through December 31, 2009 to allow individuals time to switch to cVPN without an interruption in service.
To begin using the VPN service, simply visit http://cvpn.uchicago.edu.
