Library, Housing, and NSIT Announce New Unified Printing System
To address a desire raised by students in the spring of 2008, the University of Chicago Library, Housing & Dining Services, and NSIT have worked together over the last 18 months to deploy a unified printing system for the residence halls, libraries, and other locations around campus. The system from Canon Business Solutions makes it easier for students, faculty, and staff to print to and use additional features incorporated within any device that is a part of the system. Highlights include:
- Single environment within the libraries, residence halls and USITE clusters for printing and copying
- Over 40 print stations located across campus
- Touch-and-go printing using either a Chicago Card or a Library copy card
- Cashless reloading of print accounts using the Web ReValue system
- Cash-to-card reloading via copy card machines (selected locations)
- Letter, legal, and tabloid-sized printing (varies by location)
- Black and white printing
- Color printing (selected locations)
- Scan-to-USB (selected locations) and Scan-to-WebShare (coming soon)
- Microform printing and copying (selected locations)
- Copying support (selected locations)
- Direct printing from any Library, USITE, or residence hall public workstation
- Web printing from personal computers, laptops, and other devices via the printing.uchicago.edu website
To use the unified printing system, individuals will need either a copy card or a Chicago Card with a cash balance. Individuals can purchase or add value to a card via machines in the Regenstein, Crerar, or D'Angelo Law libraries, or online using the Web ReValue site. To use the Web ReValue system, individuals will need a valid CNetID or, in the case of the medical center, UCHAD (with VPN access enabled) to set up a printing account at printing.uchicago.edu.
