The mainframe is optimized for administrative functions; and, is ordinarily not used for academic or research uses. There are a variety of other servers on campus designed for specific academic and research uses. They are partially described at the Computing Resources Page.
Some mainframe services require additional registration. For example, Financial Systems controls registration for the Financial Analysis System (FAS); Alumni Development controls registration for the Alumni Development Data System (ADDS).
Computer Operations manages a number of IBM and Sun administrative servers. Access to these servers is controlled by the departments responsible for the functions run on those machines.
