Who are we and what do we do?

Background Data Center Services operates or manages numerous servers that provide central network and administrative services for the University of Chicago. We support central University staff engaged in the areas of finance, human resources, telephone billing, library systems, alumni services, and executive decision support. Support includes systems administration, facilities and hardware planning, and production control services. The central server area is staffed seven days per week, twenty-four hours per day, except for some University holidays.
Central
Servers
The central servers include a z/OS mainframe and several AIX, Solaris, and Windows servers with 1 to 4 processors apiece for administrative services. Taken together, these machines have about 2 gigabytes of memory, and about 344 gigabytes of disk storage. They serve upwards of 600 administrative staff directly, and numerous others through the services they provide to faculty, staff, and students.
