Connecting from off-campus

AT&T Internet Connectivity Option

This service is designed to provide Internet Access, including access to the World Wide Web and email, as well as 24 x 7 service availability and support. A service level of fewer than one busy per 100 calls guaranteed.  More information is available.

We now have a web proxy server in place for use with any outside ISP.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

The VPN (virtual private network) allows University community members access to restricted services from off campus. It is not recommended as a substitute for the web proxy, since it requires the installation of fairly complex and invasive software.  The VPN Client and instructions are available here.

Our modem hardware supports both the v.90 and k56flex 56Kbps modem standards. However, we can not support the X2 56Kbps standard.

The modem pool automatically disconnects sessions after three hours of continuous use. We have a policy of maximum usage at six hours per day per user.

Software and Configuration

The connectivity software package includes software and configuration information for the modem pool and the VPN.
