Universal Wiring Plan

The University of Chicago owns and operates its own communications network, which provides service for the main Hyde Park campus along with many other locations in the surrounding area. Today this communications network consists of digital telephone PBX's, paging and voice mail systems, and an extensive data communications network of routers and data packet switches.

Networking Services and Information Technologies has the responsibility for planning, developing, managing and maintaining the most effective, efficient and economic communications network  it can. To ensure that the University's voice and data communications needs are met, NSIT must be consulted during the initial planning of new construction or renovation of existing space. The Structured Cabling Specification, also known as the Universal Wiring Plan (UWP), is constantly changing due to the implementation of new technologies. The Structured Cabling Specifications document should be checked frequently for updates.

The current Universal Wiring Plan can be downloaded as a PDF document.
