Viewing Quota & Folder Sizes in Thunderbird
Once quota has been enabled for your NSIT email account, you will be able to view your overall quota status in email clients that are configured to use IMAP and that include support for this function. Thunderbird is such a client.
You can also make a few changes to the default Thunderbird settings, which will enable you to view the size of individual folders that you've recently touched.
Viewing Quota
You view your overall quota status in Thunderbird as follows:
- Right-click on the inbox for your NSIT email account
- Left-click on the "Properties" item in the context menu
- Left-click on the "Quota" tab
You should see something like this:
If you don't, then quota has not yet been enabled for your account and you should view the cMail Quota page for this information until quota is enabled for your account.
Viewing Folder Sizes
With a few changes to Thunderbird's options, you can enable the viewing of individual folder sizes for folders. You enable this as follows:
-
- (Windows) Go to Tools → Options → Advanced
- (Mac OS X) Go to Thunderbird → Preferences → Advanced
- Expand "General Settings"
- Place a check-mark next to "Show expanded columns in the folder pane", then click on "OK"
- At the top of your folder listing, you should now see a column labeled "Name" as well as a small column selection drop-down icon - click on this icon then click on "Size" from the resulting drop-down
You should now see a column at the top of your folder listing called "Size". You may also notice that not all your folders are displaying a size; this is normal. Sizes are only displayed for folders which have been viewed recently. To generate a size value, simply click on the folders you want to display the size for.
