Searching for Messages in Thunderbird
Thunderbird includes powerful but easy to use search capabilities; using these features you can easily find messages spread across one or more mailboxes.
To search for messages within a mailbox, simply highlight that mailbox that you want to search and enter the phrase to search for in the search box in the upper-right. By default, Thunderbird will search for your phrase in the subject line or name of the sender ofeach message, but you can select other options by selecting them from the drop-down menu in the search bar.

If you'd like to search in more than one mailbox, highlight a "parent" mailbox and do the same search: every mailbox underneath will be searched. For example, to search all mailboxes, highlight the top folder (it will be named the account name) and enter your search.
Advanced Search
Thunderbird also contrains an advanced search option; to use it, go to Edit → Find → Search Messages. You wil see a number of additional options here; additionally, you can click on the "More" button to use more than one rule to find or eleminate messages.
