Setting up a Windows Mobile 5/6 device for xMail
These instructions will work with most similar Windows Mobile devices, including:
- RIM Blackjack
- AT&T Tilt
- AT&T 5925
- Palm Treo 700
- Palm Treo 750
Here is a basic walkthrough for configuring this Windows Mobile device to work with xMail:
- Go to Start → Activesync → Menu → Configure Server.
- Server address: xmail.uchicago.edu.
- Check "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection".
- Click Next.
- In the next menu:
- Username: Your CNetID.
- Password: CNet Password.
- Domain: adlocal.
- Check the "Save Password" box (required for automatic syncing).
- Click Next.
- Choose the data that you would like to synchronize (at least Calendar & Email).
- Click Finish.
You may get a message that Exchange has the ability to synchronize items automatically as they arise. Click Yes to allow this, and you will have PUSH enabled ("Blackberry-like behavior").
You can edit the peak schedule times that your device will sync. To do so, go to Start → Activesync → Menu → Schedule. Click Menu → Peak Times to specify the times, then click Done.
