Setting up Windows 2000/XP to use the new DNS servers
Notice
This change only affects you if your previous DNS server addresses include any of the following:
- 128.135.4.2
- 128.135.20.100
- 128.135.72.200
- 128.135.228.2
- 128.135.12.73
Windows XP
- Go to Start → Control Panel (or Start → Settings → Control Panel).
- Go to Network Connections (or Network and Internet Connection → Network Connections).
- Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties from the popup menu.
- Make sure you are on the General tab.
- Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties button
- Note: if "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected then you should select "Obtain DNS server address automatically" and not enter the numbers above.
- Enter 128.135.247.50 and 128.135.249.50 for your Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server. It doesn't matter which order you enter them in.
- Click OK.
- Click Close.
- You can close the Control Panel by clicking on the red x in the upper right corner.
Windows 2000
Note: Windows 2000 is no longer supported. This guide is provided as-is.
- Go to Start → Settings → Control Panel → Network Connections
- Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties from the popup menu.
- Make sure you are on the General tab.
- Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties button.
- Note: If "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected then you should select "Obtain DNS server address automatically" and not enter the numbers below.
- Enter 128.135.247.50 and 128.135.249.50 for your Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server. It doesn't matter which order you enter them in.
- Click OK.
- Click Close.
- You can close the Control Panel by clicking on the red x in the upper right corner.
