Configure WINS in UCAD
Currently NSIT has two WINS servers, skratchy (128.135.23.44) and itchy (128.135.23.43). All NSIT clients that use WINS, along with other groups around campus, point to these two servers. In addition, NSIT's WINS servers have replication agreements with external groups who are in the process of migrating their resources into UCAD.The WINS infrastructure has a hub and spoke configuration, modeled after Microsoft best practices. There are two primary WINS servers, with one spoke and one hub, with any migrating groups configured as a spoke, only replicating to the hub server. The other spoke will support NSIT and associated groups, Library and other yet to be determined groups who might join UCAD. All client machines will set their spoke server as the primary WINS server. The hub server will serve as the secondary for all client machines, regardless of spoke.
- In the Control Panel, open Network Settings, right-click the primary NIC for the machine, and select Properties to open the Local Area Network Properties dialog box.
- Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click the Properties button.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Click the WINS tab.
