NSIT Client Relations

Web Standards

The integrated NSIT website helps our clients access information about computing without having to know which groups offer which services. The site is composed of several different types of pages. It's important that you use the page type that is appropriate to your information in order to maintain the structure of the content.

Primary Types of Pages

  • Services:

Service sites are the center pieces of the NSIT website. Service sites tell our users about our offerings and how to use them. They include documentation and policies that strictly and entirely relate only to that single service. Keeping our services on service sites (instead of on our group webpages) allows clients to look at a unified list of what we offer.

  • Find IT:

All services on the website are part of the service catalog, Find IT, which is an integral part of NSIT's web presence. All documentation is indexed through Find IT action briefs.

  • Documentation (docs):

Documentation pages provide information about topics that either don't fit into a particular service or that cover or touch on multiple services.

  • Policies:

Policy pages contain policies that either don't fit into a particular service or that cover or touch on multiple services.

  • Groups:

Group sites contain information about your group and what your group does. Your group site can list all the services you offer (so that your clients know and so that you can keep track of services to maintain), but the service information itself must be placed in a service site. Service information does not belong on group sites, because:

    1. We want our clients to be able to find information about services without having to know which group offers which service
    2. The breadcrumbs on service sites specifically lead back to the list of all services, and must not lead to a group website that ultimately is a dead end for our clients
    3. Client Relations adds all services on the NSIT site to Find IT and to the service site list to make sure everything is as accessible as possible
    4. We want the cleanest and most logical site possible, and services don't belong on group sites.

Please talk to Client Relations if you have questions. We're happy to help figure out where information should reside.
