March 19, 2008: Office 2008 for Mac OS X Student Media is now available at the NSIT Solution Center. Faculty/Staff media is at the replicator and is expected in late next week. Assuming the replication job remains on-schedule, we expect to make the Faculty/Staff media available beginning on the first day of the Spring Quarter (March 31, 2008) at the NSIT Solution Center.
January 9, 2008: Microsoft announced that Office 2008 for Mac
OS X is being released on January 15, 2008. This does not mean we have Office
2008 for Mac OS X available yet via the Campus Agreement. What this does mean,
is that we will be receiving the master media for Office 2008 for Mac OS X
later this month or early next and then will need to arrange for it to be
replicated. The end result is that we currently do not expect to make Office
2008 for Mac OS X available until late-Winter or early-Spring Quarter 2008.
This also applies to Student Media availability. We will post updated
information as firmer dates as established.
June 22, 2007: Departmental media for Windows Vista Enterprise Upgrade (32-bit) will be available at CCS beginning on June 25, 2007 - please see the Vista Activation link at left for important information about activating this product. Finally, Student media for Office 2007 Enterprise will be available at CCS beginning on June 25, 2007 as well.
May 21, 2007: Testing for the volume licensing infrastructure necessary for the release of the Departmental Windows Vista Enterprise media is nearing completion, once these tests are complete we will be release this media - the current estimate for this is early-June. Student media for Office 2007 Enterprise and Windows Vista Ultimate has been ordered and should be available in June.

Student media for Office 2007 Enterprise and Windows Vista Ultimate will not be shipping until May.
February 22, 2007: We have been informed by our distributor that the student media for Office 2007 Enterprise and Windows Vista Ultimate will not be shipping until April/May. Departmental media for Office 2007 is currently being replicated and should be available in mid-March. The volume licensing infrastructure necessary for the release of the Departmental Windows Vista Enterprise media is still being tested, once these tests are complete we will be release this media - the current estimate for this is late-March.
December 12, 2006: Microsoft announced that both Office 2007 and Windows Vista "released to manufacturing" in late-November. This does not mean we have either Office 2007 or Windows Vista yet. What this does mean, is that we will be receiving the physical master media for Office 2007 and Windows Vista later this Winter (the current estimate is mid-January) and then will need to arrange for it to be replicated. The end result is that we currently do not expect to make Office 2007 and Windows Vista available until sometime during Winter Quarter 2007 (the current estimate is mid-February 2007).
April 1, 2005: Departmental Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 media has arrived and will be available for Departmental purchase through CCS next week - this will be the default media provided unless the older RTM version of Windows XP Professional is specifically requested; Departmental Windows XP Professional media (RTM version, no service pack) will remain available while supplies last.
December 29, 2004: Departmental Virtual PC for Mac OS X media has arrived and will be available at CCS beginning Monday January 3, 2005. Our Campus Agreement provides coverage for Office Professional on Mac OS X (as well as Windows), but due to the delay between the release of Office 2004 for Mac OS X Standard and Professional, we initially released just the Standard version back in August. The only difference between Office 2004 for Mac OS X Standard and Professional is the inclusion of Virtual PC for Mac OS X as a separate "Disk 2" in the Professional version. Since we still have substantial quantities of Departmental Office 2004 for Mac OS X Standard media available, we have decided not to replicate Departmental Office 2004 for Mac OS X Professional media for the time being. At such time as our stock of Departmental Office 2004 for Mac OS X Standard media runs out, we will then offer Departmental Office 2004 for Mac OS X Professional media.
Microsoft is NOT making separate student media for Virtual PC for Mac OS X available - we will only be able to order Office 2004 for Mac OS X Professional media for students. Student Office 2004 for Mac OS X Professional media is on order and is expected to be received in the next few weeks. Students who have already purchased a set of Office 2004 for Mac OS X Standard will be permitted to also purchase a set of Office 2004 for Mac OS X Professional media.
Virtual PC for Windows is NOT covered by our Campus Agreement.

May 18, 2004: Microsoft announced that Office 2004 for Mac OS X "released to manufacturing" in late-April. This does not mean we have Office 2004 for Mac OS X available yet. What this does mean, is that we will be receiving the master media for Office 2004 for Mac OS X later this quarter (the current estimate is sometime in mid-June) and then will need to arrange for it to be replicated. The end result is that we currently do not expect to make Office 2004 for Mac OS X available until Summer Quarter 2004.
December 9, 2003: Office 2003 Professional for Windows media (both Departmental and Student) will be available at CCS beginning on January 5, 2004.
August 20, 2003: Microsoft announced that Office 2003 Professional "released to manufacturing" today. This does not mean we have Office 2003 Professional available yet. What this does mean, is that we will be receiving the master media for Office 2003 Professional later this Fall (the current estimate is late-October/early-November) and then will need to arrange for it to be replicated. The end result is that we currently do not expect to make Office 2003 Professional available until after the start of Winter Quarter 2004 (January 5, 2004).
April 11, 2003: Please see the "Products Included" page for important information concerning the change from the BackOffice CAL to the Core CAL effective July 1, 2003.
June 8, 2002: Obsolete Visual Studio 6.0 Professional media has been removed from the Library reserve; Visual Studio .Net Professional is the current suite of Microsoft programming tools and media has been available for purchase since March 20, 2002, at CCS.
June 4, 2002: Effective July 1, 2002 the University of Chicago Microsoft Campus Agreement will only grant limited Work at Home Use Rights to faculty and staff members. These rights permit the use of only Office and the BackOffice CAL on a personally-owned computer for work-related purposes - no other Campus Agreement software. Users are not licensed to use the software at home for personal purposes. (NOTE: This applies to PERSONALLY-OWNED faculty/staff machines at home, so if the University of Chicago provides a UNIVERSITY-OWNED machine for Faculty/Staff work use at home and the University retains ownership of the machine, then that is not considered home use.)
March 20, 2002: Visual Studio .Net Professional media is now available for Departmental and Student purchase through CCS.
January 28, 2002: Office v.X for Mac OS X media has arrived and will be available at CCS beginning Tuesday

November 19,2001: We've added two Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to the site concerning the availability of both Windows XP Professional and Office v.X for MacOS X. Essentially, both should be available in Winter Quarter 2002, with Windows XP Professional arriving first to most likely be followed later by Office v.X for MacOS X.
October 23, 2001: Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 2 media has arrived and will be available for Departmental purchase through CCS by the end of the week. Windows XP Professional media will not be made available until Winter Quarter 2002 (January 2002).
September 28, 2001: CCS is temporarily out of stock of the Windows 2000 Professional Upgrade CDs. We are currently arranging for replication of a new version of Windows 2000 Professional. This new version will come with Service Pack 2 already applied to the CD, so you will not have to apply SP2 to new installations from these CDs. We expect to have these new CDs available before the end of October.
August 7, 2001: Media for Office XP Professional (both Departmental and Student), FrontPage 2002 (Student only) and Office 2001 Macintosh (Departmental and Student) are now available at CCS for $15/each.
August 1, 2001: Media for Office XP Professional (both Departmental and Student) and FrontPage 2002 (Student only) will be available for purchase at CCS beginning on August 6, 2001. Office 2001 Mac (Student) is on order, but has not yet been received - we expect to see this media in the next week or two. (NOTE: There will not be separate departmental media for FrontPage 2002, since Microsoft included FrontPage 2002 on the CD used for the departmental master.)
As previously stated here, due to changes in Microsoft's license usage terms, we will no longer be offering Library check-out for the Office Suites and FrontPage Applications effective as of the end of the Summer Quarter 2001 (August 25th, 2001). Beginning in late August the only methods available for obtaining media for these products will be to purchase them through CCS. Office XP Professional and FrontPage 2002 media will only be offered for sale through CCS and will not be made available for Library Loan. In other words, you have until the end of the Summer Quarter to check-out Office 2000 Professional, FrontPage 2000, Office 2001 Mac and FrontPage 1.0 Mac from the Library reserve units; once the Summer Quarter ends there will no longer be any Office Suites or FrontPage Applications available through Library reserve.
June 4, 2001: We now have master media for Office XP Professional Edition for Windows. We are currently arranging for duplication, with an expected July availability.
Due to changes in Microsoft's license usage terms, we will no longer be offering Library check-out for Office XP Professional Edition for Windows, Office 2001 Macintosh Edition and FrontPage 2002. Beginning in early July (the exact date will be posted here) the only methods available for obtaining media for these products will be to purchase them through CCS. Initially, only for the Windows versions, there will be TWO different types of media: Student media and Departmental media. Each copy of Student media will have a unique product installation key that will limit the number of times the media can be used for installation onto different machines and will also require activation before the 50th launch to continue usage. Each copy of Departmental media will utilize the same product installation key that will allow multiple installs and not require activation. The cost for either piece of media is $10.
As before, the Office XP Professional media will REPLACE the Office 2000 Professional media that is currently available, and the prior version will only be available for purchase while existing supplies last.
November 7, 2000: Media for Windows ME Upgrade and Office 2001 for Mac are now available.
November 1, 2000: Media for the Windows ME Upgrade and Office 2001 for Mac have now been received back from the duplicators and we are in the process of making both available through Library Loan and CCS Departmental Purchase. At this point we estimate that the Windows ME Upgrade and Office 2001 for Mac will be available beginning on Monday, November the 6th. The Windows ME Upgrade media will REPLACE the Windows 98 Upgrade media that is currently available for loan; and the Office 2001 for Mac media will REPLACE the Office 98 for Mac media that is currently available for loan.
September 29, 2000: We now have the master media for both the Windows ME (Millennium Edition) Upgrade and Office 2001 for Mac. We are currently arranging for duplication, with an expected late-October availability for both the Windows ME Upgrade and Office 2001 for Mac.
September 12, 2000: Windows ME (Millennium Edition) is being released officially by Microsoft on September 14th, 2000. Once we receive the media for the Windows ME Upgrade we will send it out for duplication and make it available soon thereafter. May 4, 2000: Windows 2000 Professional media is now available for departmental purchase through CCS.

Office 2000 Professional Departmental media (not SR-1) will again be available beginning April 17, 2000 at CCS, although in a slightly different form.
March 20, 2000: Windows 2000 Professional will be going out for duplication later this week. At this time we estimate it will be made available during the first week of April. No new news concerning the availability of Office 2000 Professional SR-1.
February 24, 2000: Windows 2000 Professional media has been on order for the past two weeks; there is no expected date for its' arrival, other than "very soon". Once the source media arrives, we will send it our for duplication - which will take approximately two weeks. Our current estimate for availability of the University of Chicago media is by the beginning of Spring Quarter (March 27, 2000).
Existing stock of Office 2000 Professional media at CCS is running very low (they expect to run out very soon), and we will not be making additional copies of Office 2000 Professional until Microsoft releases Office 2000 Professional SR-1 (Service Release 1). SR-1 - which is still in Beta - is expected out within the next month or so, and is expected to make O2K Pro Windows 2000 Compliant and incorporate several other fixes. Office 2000 Professional media will continue to be available for loan from the Library reserve units. As usual, stay tuned for updates...
January 6, 2000: The current estimate for availability of Windows 2000 Professional through the University of Chicago Microsoft Campus Agreement is early-March, 2000. More information will be posted here as it becomes available. There is some more detail available in the FAQ.
September 15, 1999: Student Office 2000 Professional for Windows & Office 98 for Macintosh CDs will be available for sale at the Campus Computer Stores beginning Monday, September 20th. We will only have a limted number of the student CDs on hand, with more expected in coming weeks. The student CDs are $10 (sales tax included) and CCS requests that payment be made in cash using exact change. NOTE: These STUDENT CDs are for students ONLY; Faculty and Staff are not allowed to purchase or use these CDs (Departmental CDs are available for purchase on form DP62 and the Library Reserve Unit CDs are also available for overnight loan).
August 31, 1999: The Office 2000 Professional CDs will be available for departmental purchase through CCS beginning September 1, 1999 - the cost is $10 per CD and payable only via a form DP62. The Library Reserve Units should make Office 2000 Professional available for loan to Faculty, Staff and Students beginning September 7, 1999, until then Office Professional 97 will continue to be available for loan. There will be no electronic downloads of Office 2000 Professional and all electronic downloads of the Office Suites (both Mac and Windows) will no longer be available after August 31, 1999. Once both CCS and the Library have made Office 2000 Professional available, the prior version (Office 97 Professional) will no longer be made generally available.
August 18, 1999: There was a delay involved with getting the Office 2000 Professional CDs duplicated, this has been cleared up. Things are on track for the Office 2000 Professional CDs to be available by the end of the month of August. Limited numbers of Visual Studio Professional 6.0 for Windows, FrontPage 2000 for Windows and FrontPage 1.0 for Macintosh should now be available through the Library check-out procedure and for departmental purchase through CCS.
July 13, 1999: Office 2000 Professional CDs for Windows 9X/NT are currently on order. Once the CDs are received, we will need to send them out for duplication, which should take about two weeks to complete. The end result is that we expect Office 2000 Professional for Windows to be available - through the Library check-out procedure and for departmental purchase through CCS - in late July/early August. We have also ordered limited numbers of Visual Studio Professional 6.0 for Windows, FrontPage 2000 for Windows and FrontPage 1.0 for Macintosh to make available through the Library check-out procedure and for departmental purchase through CCS. Check back here for updates.
May 20, 1999: Office 2000 is scheduled to be released commercially by Microsoft on June 10th, 1999. February 1, 1999: The CDs for Windows 98 & NT Workstation have arrived, they should now be available.
January 21, 1999: The Windows 98 Upgrade and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation CD-ROMs should be coming back from the duplicator early next week. We currently expect that the Windows 98 Upgrade and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation CDs will be available - for departmental purchase only at $10/each - at the Campus Computer Stores by Wednesday (1/27/1999). The Windows 98 Upgrade CDs should be available for loan through the Library Reserve units and Dorms a few days after they are made available for sale through the store.
