Chalk Learning Management System

Batch Upload of Course Materials

The easiest way to post content to your Chalk course site is to post one item at a time (see Add Items). However, what if you have a file folder of 50 or so items that you'd like to post? This can be accomplished by using the Document Unpackager feature in Chalk.

Please note before beginning - the word zip, package and archive all mean the same thing. Different operating systems/programs reference them differently.

Step 1: Organization
  • Organize all your documents in a file folder on your local computer and name the folder properly. How this folder is named is how it will appear in Chalk.
  • Make sure all the files located in this folder are named properly. File names that include special characters, spaces, dashes, commas, etc., will not open for students. Periods should only be used directly before the file extension. The file extension tells the computer what program to use to open the file, such as .doc or .pdf.
    • Incorrect File Name: Readings, pg.1-2 (para. 3).pdf
    • Correct File Name: readingspgs1thru2.pdf
Step 2: Now Zip the file folder
  • From a PC:
    • Highlight the folder (don't open) and right click
    • Under Send to, select Compressed Zipped Folder
  • From a Mac:
    • Control right click on the file folder name, then select Archive

You will now have two file folders - one zipped and one in regular format. The zipped version should have a small zipper icon next to it. This is what you will upload to Chalk.

Step 3: Upload the zipped folder into Chalk
  • Control Panel
  • Go to the Content area in Chalk you would like to post this file folder, such as Course Documents
  • To the right, you will see a "+Select" icon and Drop Down Box
  • Select Document Package from the Drop Down box, then Select Go
  • Browse to the zipped file folder you just zipped above and press Submit
