xMail
xMail is a fee-based service designed for users and departments desiring highly integrated corporate-style messaging and calendaring based on Microsoft Exchange. It was created for University academic or administrative departments that want to provide such services to most of their users but want to avoid the significant up-front equipment, software, and management costs associated with Microsoft Exchange-based email service. The xMail service supports the full functionality of Microsoft Outlook and can be used with the BlackBerry mobile device and the new Mobile Windows devices.
For xMail users, NSIT recommends and supports Microsoft Outlook for on-campus Windows users and Microsoft Entourage for on-campus Mac users. For off-campus access, the recommended and supported client is the xMail web interface, which, when accessed with Internet Explorer, provides an experience almost identical to Microsoft Outlook.
xMail can be used in two modes. You can just use xMail to read your email, or you can use xMail with a BlackBerry device, which gives you integrated email capability. Using xMail with a BlackBerry requires four components:
- A BlackBerry device
- A cellular voice plan
- An unlimited cellular data plan
- An xMail account
xMail Rates
These rates are current as of:
xMail without mobile device: $ per month.
xMail with mobile device: $ per month plus the cost of a mobile device (like the iPhone or Blackberry) and a voice and unlimited data plan. Please visit the cellular phone models and cellular rates pages for prices.
