Computer Leasing
Welcome to NSIT-PC's leasing and Fee-Based web page. The leasing program is designed to provide a substantial level of support to University departments. Departments under the leasing program are supplied with computers that have a standard hardware configuration, also the computers have imaged hard drives with the current operating system, and bundled with the software that site licensing provides the University. This feature allows leasing staff to replace rapidly a computer suffering from any hardware failures, to swap computers easily and therefore to ensure a minimal amount of computer downtime to the affected department.
The optional fee-based support portion of Leasing is designed to protect clients' data through centralized backups, to provide for data transfer between leased computers, and, as a future service, to allow software and operating system upgrades over the network. In essence, the leasing program protects against long periods of downtime due to hardware problems and the fee-based support protects data and the operating system.
This program can help any department, whether small or large, with its IT needs. Small departments which may not have the resources to have full-time computer support personnel can use the Leasing program as an alternative. When combined with the services of the NSIT Support Line, Leasing can provide a high level of support, including hardware replacement, data protection, and support for standard University software.
Large departments, which may already have support people, can also benefit from Leasing. Because the program's design can quickly eliminate hardware and/or low-level operating system problems (by replacing the defective equipment or providing a known good copy of the operating system, respectively), departmental support personnel can be freed from worrying about these issues, allowing them to concentrate on meeting other computer needs within the department.
