Identity Finder for University-Owned Machines

Identity Finder is a Windows software package which assists in preventing identity theft by finding sensitive data on your computer. The application searches selected areas of your computer for specific types of information and provides tools to protect or securely dispose of the information. NSIT is distributing Identity Finder to help clients search for Social Security Numbers (SSNs) on their computer periodically because Social Security numbers stored on your hard drive represent a significant risk to the University in the event of a security compromise.

The installer is configured so that it will automatically run a scan on your hard drive when installation is complete. This scan will look only for non-secure SSNs, and may take 5-10 minutes or longer depending on the state of your hard drive. When the initial scan is complete, the full application will launch and you will be able to view a summary. For more information, see the Identity Finder instructions.

You must provide your CNetID and password to download this software. This download is for University-owned machines only.  Accordingly, it can only be downloaded by University faculty and staff who are on the campus network.  There is a separate download for personally-owned machines.

Identity Finder is only available for Windows -- we do not have a solution for Mac OS X at this time.
