Who may purchase from Hardware & Software Sales?

Only full time staff members, students, and faculty at the University of Chicago may purchase from Hardware & Software Sales. Argonne and Fermi employees also qualify under these rules. There are NO exceptions to this rule. Please bring your validated University ID with you.

When are you open?

The Solution Center and the Warehouse are open every weekday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. We are not open on Saturdays, except during the back to school rush in the Fall.

How do I contact a salesperson? Where do I place my order?

You can place your order in the Solution Center, located in the University of Chicago Bookstore building at 970 E. 58th Street, 3rd Floor, which is just across the street from the Administration building on Ellis. We are open Monday 9:30a-4:30p, Tuesday thru Friday 8:30a-4:30p.

Please do not bring your order to our Warehouse at 6019 S. Kimbark; that location is for picking up orders only.

How can I get a copy of the pricelist?

Stop by the Solution Center and pick one up or view it online at http://nsit.uchicago.edu/services/sales/pricelists/index.php.

Can I fax my order?

Yes, and you are welcome to do so using our Fax Order Form. Only credit card orders can be faxed. Fill in all the requested information. You must attach a photocopy of your ID. Failure to do so will place your order on indefinite hold. Send Fax orders to: (773)702-1084

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, cashier's check, personal checks (pending approval by TeleCheck), Traveller's Checks, Money Orders, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Departmental "62" forms (only credit cards for faxed orders).

We cannot accept American Express, Optima, business checks, or personal checks which are not approved by the TeleCheck agency.

We require a driver's license or valid State ID when paying for an order by personal check. This is a requirement stipulated by TeleCheck. Please do not take offense when we ask for ID.

NOTE: Personal purchases are subject to Illinois Sales tax, which is 9.0%. The ONLY exception is for Departments. We do not honor any other tax-exemption status. If you have your purchase shipped out of state, you avoid paying sales tax immediately, but you still pay UPS shipping charges. If you take delivery of your equipment in Illinois, you must pay sales tax. You can save a significant amount of money on larger orders if you are fortunate enough to live in Indiana AND opt to have your order shipped UPS.

Where can I pick up my order?

Pick up your order at our Warehouse, which is located in the basement of 6019 Kimbark, the New Graduate Residence Hall. The Warehouse is open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. We cannot fill any orders after 4:30 PM. You can view a map of our location on the Contact page.

Will you ship/deliver my order?

We would be delighted to ship your order via UPS anywhere within the Continental United States. We can deliver your order starting at $15 anywhere within the surrounding Hyde Park area. Please make shipping arrangements at the time you place your order. We do not ship overseas.
