What will you be doing with your scanned slides?

Scanning Slides for Publication

Please remember that publishers can differ in their requirements for submitting an image. It is always wise to check with them first. In general, publishers will probably require images to be saved as TIFF files with a higher resolution.

Step 1: Check Scanner Lid

  • Make sure that cover is detached, by sliding it off by the handle
  • You should now be able to see the glass panel that is needed for transparacy scanning
  • You will now use Adobe Photoshop CS, working together with the scanning software

Step 2: Open Adobe Photoshop CS Epson Scan Settings Photo
  • In the Adobe Photoshop CS menu, select Import from the file menu
  • Select the Epson Scanner that is connected to the computer
  • The Epson Scan software now opens and you are ready to enter your scan settings.
Step 3: Scan Settings
  • In the Epson Scan Window, make sure the following settings are accurate:
    • Original

      • File Type: Postive or Negative
    • Desination:
      • Image Type: 24-bit Color
      • Resolution: 300 (the minimum)
Step 4: Place your slide(s) on the scanner
  • Each scanner comes with an 8 slide place holder
  • Place that holder on the scanner
  • Place the slides in the holder
  • Don't worry about cropping each individual slide ... that will be done in the Crop and Straighten section in Step 5
  • Photo PreviewClick Preview from the Epson Scan window

  • Click Scan
Step 5: You will be automatically returned to Adobe Photoshop CS

  • In the File menu bar, select Automate
  • Select Crop and Straighten
  • Photoshop should automatically crop and straighten each photograph and separate them into individual windows
  • Click on each window and save as follows:
    • In the File menu Bar, select Save or Save As
    • Under Format, make sure TIFF is selected
    • Name your slide and save in the proper file folder
