Central Data Storage
NSIT's Data Center offers Central Data Storage to the University community. Central Data Storage is limited to servers currently hosted by NSIT Data Center Services.
What are the Storage options?
Storage is offered in the NSIT Storage Area Network (SAN) on 3 tiers:
- Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA)
- Fiber Channel 10K High Speed Disk*
- Fiber Channel 15K High Speed Disk
All NSIT SAN Storage is virtualized behind IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC) and managed by Data Center Services staff.
*Please note that there is limited availability on the Fiber Channel 10K High Speed Disk.
What are Ports?
Ports refer to connections to the SAN via Host Bus Adapter (HBA) or Fibre Channel interface card.
There are two types of ports:
- Full ports: Typically, each server will have two HBAs and thus two port connections. This creates a redundant connection and helps insulate against storage outages due to single point failures and during routine SAN maintenance.
- Fractional Port: Fractional ports, at a reduced, flat fee, exist for virtual machines.
What are the Central Data Storage Rates?
One-Time Setup Charge: $100
Monthly Maintenance Charges:
- Monthly Full Port charge (per port): $18.04
- Monthly Fractional Port charge: $2.00
- Monthly SATA disk charge (per GB): $0.32
-
Monthly 10K disk charge (per GB): $0.41
-
Monthly 15K disk charge (per GB): $0.69
