USITE
USITE Computing Clusters
NSIT Academic Technologies operates four USITE computing clusters located in the Biological Sciences Learning Center (BSLC) and in the Crerar, Harper, and Regenstein libraries.
BSLC
USITE/BSLC is the newest and smallest of the four USITE clusters. It is a self-service facility located on the fourth floor of the Biological Science Learning Center. Equipped with Windows workstations, the USITE/BSLC machines are loaded with the standard suite of software and have access to a USITE black-and-white pay-for-print kiosk.
Crerar
Located in the lower level of the East Atrium of Crerar Library, USITE/Crerar is equipped with over 80 Macintosh and Windows systems to meet the academic and general-purpose computing needs of faculty and students. USITE/Crerar is designed with collaboration in mind and can adapt to the needs of any client group. Features include reconfigurable tables for up to eight people, fixed booths for up to three people, seminar areas to accommodate between six and 20 people, and a digital media laboratory of eight stations.
In addition to the reconfigurable spaces, there are data projection systems, rolling whiteboards, and the aforementioned digital media laboratory integrated into the environment. The digital media laboratory is available, during normal cluster hours, to anyone who wants to edit digital video or perform high-resolution scanning projects. At scheduled times, a digital media specialist is available to assist with the hardware, software, and sophisticated capabilities of the systems. There is also a computing assistant available during all hours of operation who can assist with technical problems and address common software issues. As with all USITE clusters, USITE printing kiosks are located within the space and both high-speed color and black-and-white laser printing is available.
About the Crerar Project
A number of people have requested details on the creation of USITE/Crerar, the thought process behind the project, and for photographs of the space. Additional information is available on our Crerar Project page.
Harper
The USITE/Harper cluster is located in the annex of the west end of Harper Library in Wieboldt 310. It houses over 40 Macintosh and Windows workstations and two Macintosh-based scanning stations. Like all USITE clusters, these machines are loaded with the standard suite of software, and both high-speed black-and-white and color laser printing kiosks are installed within the space. As with USITE/Crerar, a computing assistant is on staff during all hours of operation to assist with technical problems and address common software issues.
Regenstein
Located on the A-Level of the Regenstein Library, USITE/Regenstein is a self-service facility that is equipped with 16 Windows workstations. Like all USITE machines, the USITE/Regenstein workstations are loaded with the standard suite of software with printing provided through the Regenstein Library printing system and as a result, the USITE free printing allowance does not apply at this location.
Because of USITE/Regenstein's physical location within the library, it is available 24-hours when the A-Level of Regenstein is open as an all-night study space.
