Mailbox Initialization
In your voicemail packet, you will be given a letter that has your mailbox number, which is the same as your telephone number and a temporary password. The first time you use voicemail, you will use the temporary password to access your mailbox. When you log in to your mailbox for the first time, the voicemail tutorial will automatically guide you through the steps of setting up your mailbox, changing your password, personalizing it with your greeting, and recording your name. The entire tutorial must be completed to properly initialize the mailbox, otherwise the mailbox will default back to the temporary password and any recordings will be erased. To begin:
- Follow the Check Voicemail instructions to access your mailbox
- Enter your temporary password to log in to your mailbox
- Follow the voicemail tutorial to set up your mailbox
- To exit your mailbox, press [9] until you hear "good bye"
Mailbox Password
Your mailbox is private and can only be accessed using your personal password--we recommend 6 to 10 digits to further protect the privacy of your mailbox and the security of the voicemail system.
To set or change your permanent password, follow the Change My Password instructions. If you enter the wrong password 5 times within a 24-hour period, you will be locked out of your mailbox and hear "Your mailbox is not accessible at this time." Contact your Voicemail Administrator or Client Services & Support at 2-9100, option 4 for assistance.
If you forget your voicemail password, or if it is necessary to have your password changed, an authorized signer for your account must send a written or email request. Email requests should be sent to 29100@uchicago.edu. There is no charge to "unlock" a password but there is a $ 32.43 charge to change a password. For security reasons, we cannot change passwords without written authorization. Contact Client Services & Support at 2-9100, option 4, or 29100@uchicago.edu if you have questions.
