Mailbox Initialization
In your voicemail packet, you will be given a letter that has your mailbox number, which is the same as your telephone number and a temporary passcode. The first time you use voicemail, you will use the temporary passcode to access your mailbox. When you log in to your mailbox for the first time, the voicemail tutorial will automatically guide you through the steps of setting up your mailbox, changing your passcode, personalizing it with your greeting, and recording your name. The entire tutorial must be completed to properly initialize the mailbox, otherwise the mailbox will default back to the temporary passcode and any recordings will be erased.
Let's get started...
- Follow the steps to gain access your mailbox (See section on mailbox access),
- Enter your temporary passcode to log-in to your mailbox,
- Change your personal and private passcode (See section on mailbox passcode),
- Record your message to greet callers (See section on mailbox greeting),
- Record your name to identify your mailbox to other users (See section on mailbox name),
- To exit your mailbox Press [9] until you hear "good bye".
Access From Your Office
If you have a multi-line telephone (ITE12 or ITE30) with a dedicated mail button, get dial tone on your mailbox line, then:
- Select MAIL button (also could be marked as INTEMAIL)
- Listen for system to answer with ‘Hello…’
- Enter your passcode
- If the red light by the mail or intemail button is flashing, you have a message(s) waiting for you.
If you have a single line telephone with 4 feature buttons (ITE4), pick-up the receiver and:
- Select VMAIL button
- Listen for system to answer with ‘Hello…’
- Enter your passcode
- If the red light at the bottom of the phone is flashing and/or if you hear "Voice Message, Voice Message" when you pick up the receiver, you have a message(s) waiting for you.
If you have a single line telephone (STE), pick-up the receiver and:
- Enter [*] [5]
- Listen for system to answer with ‘Hello…’
- Enter your passcode
- If you hear "Voice Message, Voice Message" when you pick up the receiver, you have a message(s) waiting for you.
Access On-Site
Option 1 – Traditional Method
- Dial 2-2111 once the welcome greeting begins,
- Enter [*] and your mailbox number and [*],
- Wait for the ‘Hello…’ then enter your passcode.
Option 2 – Quick Access Method
- Dial 2-2111 once the welcome greeting begins,
- Enter [*] [*] your mailbox number followed by your passcode.
Option 3 – Call Your Extension Method
- Dial your own 2-xxxx or 3-xxxx or 4-xxxx or 5-xxxx extension,
- Wait for your mailbox greeting to start, enter [*],
- Wait for the ‘Hello…’ then enter your passcode.
Access Off-Site
Option 1 – Traditional Method
- Dial (773) 702-2111 once the welcome greeting begins,
- Enter [*] and your mailbox number and [*],
- Wait for the ‘Hello…’ then enter your passcode.
Option 2 – Quick Access Method
- Dial (773) 702-2111 ...welcome greeting begins,
- Enter [*] [*] your mailbox number followed by your passcode.
Option 3 – Call Your Line Method
- Dial your own (773) 702-xxxx or (773) 753-xxxx or (773) 834-xxxx line,
- Wait for your mailbox greeting to start, enter [*],
- Wait for the ‘Hello…’ then enter your passcode.
Mailbox Passcode
- Your mailbox is private and can only be accessed using your personal passcode--we recommend 6 to 10 digits to further protect the privacy of your mailbox and the security of the voicemail system.
- To set or change your permanent passcode, enter:
- [8] For user options, then
- [7] To change the passcode, enter your own personal (4 to 10-digit) passcode that you will always use to access your mailbox. The new passcode will be repeated and set.
- You will be back at main menu of your mailbox.
- If you enter the wrong passcode 5 times within a 24-hour period, you will be locked out of your mailbox. You will hear "Your mailbox is not accessible at this time." Contact your Voicemail Administrator or Integrated Client Services & Support at 2-9100 option 4 for assistance.
- If you forget your voicemail Passcode, or if it is necessary to have your Passcode changed just have an authorized signer for your account send a written or email request. Email requests should be sent to 29100@uchicago.edu. There is no charge to "unlock" a passcode but there is a $ charge to change a passcode. For security reasons, we cannot change passcodes without written authorization. Contact Integrated Client Services & Support at 2-9100, option 4, or 29100@uchicago.edu if you have questions.
